Artist Statement
Stevan Kojić constructs techno-ecological environments that operate both as real systems and conceptual gestures. His practice merges DIY engineering, ecological improvisation, and systemic absurdity — often forming habitats that question the very notion of sustainability, autonomy, and control.By incorporating elements such as infrared imaging, solenoids, LED grow lights, and found materials, Kojić explores what it means to simulate survival within post-industrial, post-utopian space. Engaging critically with post-ideological technoutopianism, his installations examine how seemingly autonomous systems mask deeper contradictions — revealing tensions between control and collapse, intention and malfunction.
Within his ongoing cycle Self-Sustaining System of Absurdity, Kojić reclaims dysfunction, error, and improvisation as active agents of critique. His works evoke states of survival and fragility — where the organic and the synthetic coexist in unstable, yet poetic symbiosis. The systems he constructs often reflect on techno-social frameworks that appear self-sufficient, yet expose their absurdity and precarity upon closer inspection.
